CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR for Health Care Assistant Student (registered nurse)

Location: Foyer Maillard, Coquitlam, BC
Period: Between 31 august and 27 september (According to candidate’s availability).
Schedule: 150 hours spread over 4 weeks (Monday to Friday)
Salary: $50/h to $55/h (with travel and accommodation expenses covered according to the place
of residence).
Type of contract: Freelance /Contractor
Context:
During the clinical placement (first 150 hours), students must be supervised by a clinical
instructor. The clinical instructor is an independent entrepreneur and is offering his/her
services as Clinical Instructor in a Multi-Level/Complex Care Home.
They have the skill and ability to provide direct supervision and evaluation. The Contractor meets
the minimum required qualifications. The Clinical instructor provides direct supervision and
evaluation of involved students for a total of 150 hours of clinical placement in a multi-level or
complex care including specialized dementia care. They meet the minimum required standards,
have relevant experience, and are capable of fulfilling all general responsibilities associated with
the role.
Responsibilities:
● The Contractor provides 150 hours of direct supervision and evaluation time for 2
students, as part of Collège Éducacentre’s Health Care Assistant Program.
● The Contractor is expected to guide the practice of the HCA student to ensure appropriate
care is provided to the assigned clients/residents.
● Complete the Instructor Orientation package and provide a signed copy of completion to
the Deanery.
● Complete an on-site unit orientation; contact the program leader if further orientation to
the unit will be required.
● Organize and set up unit orientation for students.
● Complete client assignments for the students by considering the student’s level of
competence and their learning needs.
● Develop and maintain good professional relationships with all students and employees.
● Monitor student progress and provide feedback.
● Assist the student in integrating theory and practice.
● Evaluate students in the clinical setting as related to program outcomes.
● Ensure you are familiar with the most up to date COVID-19 student practice education
guidelines.
● Ensure you are familiar with all legislation, policies, health professional regulatory college
bylaws, and practice standards applicable to HCAs and students.
● The Contractor provides daily pre-shift briefings and end of shift de-briefings.
● The Contractor fills all required documentation to track student progress.
● The Contractor keeps track of the hours completed by the student in the clinical
placement.
● The Contractor will promptly report back to the Health Coordinator of the Collège
Éducacentre, if unexpected difficulties arise with the student during the course of the
clinical placement.
● The Contractor is also expected to provide feedback to the Health Coordinator of the
Collège Éducacentre on the student’s performance.
Qualifications and Education:
● Current full registration with the BCCNM.
● Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (i.e. completion of Provincial Instructor
Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory
references or positive performance evaluations and student course evaluations).
● Two years or more of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400 hours). With
relevant knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system, the roles and responsibilities of
healthcare team members, and current policies and procedures within residential and
community care settings.Nursing work experience to include:
○ Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs.
○ Experience or orientation in home support and multi-level/complex care.
